IRS Announces Further Tax Deadlines Postponements
Relief Extended for Taxpayers Affected by California Disasters
WASHINGTON - The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) today announced further postponements of tax deadlines for most taxpayers affected by the winter storms and flooding in 55 California counties.
Extended Tax Deadline for California Taxpayers
Taxpayers in the affected counties now have until October 16, 2023, to file their individual and business tax returns and make payments. This extension also applies to estimated tax payments due on April 18, 2023. The IRS urges taxpayers in these counties to take advantage of this extension.
Automatic Extension for Taxpayers Affected by Natural Disasters
In addition to the extension for California taxpayers, the IRS provides an automatic six-month extension to file tax returns for taxpayers affected by certain natural disasters. To qualify for this extension, taxpayers must file by the regular deadline to avoid late filing penalties.
